There are various impacts and they all effect the worry in various manners and they are: Economic, Financial Geographic, Social, Legal, Political, Institutional, Technological, Competitive situation, and Markets.EconomicThe monetary studies of Australia are a patterned technique expecting that they experience â€Å" Boom † periods, proposing a clasp where concern owners costumiers are certain, which in twist implies all the more buying which provenders and develops the monetary framework and â€Å" Flops † other than known as a downturn this is when there is low costumier affirmation so there is less cash in concerns meaning, less business which inclines the developing of the monetary framework. The financial framework impactsly affects concern: when there is a thunder there is cash which builds up the worry, and when there is a failure there is no cash which mean the worry neglects to run into income upgrades and obligations ect. So the organization falls flat and may prevent.Fiscal InfluenceThe deregulating of the Australian financial framework has lead to flexibleness inside the monetary segment. It implies that there is a more extensive extent of rivalry, and concerns no longer require to stay tamed to their ain networks, this is because of designing and Globalisation.Geographic InfluenceThis tremendously affects Australian concern, the way that Australia is situated inside the Asia-Pacific part every piece great as the financial developing of those states for example China. This is a test for concerns on the grounds that there is a more grounded rivalry. What's more gives opportunities to worries to grow, each piece great as the nose check alongside other populace reads which take into consideration worries to create and deliver products that are appropriate for that nation, the negative is that worries need to pass an immense of cash to modify, the maturing populace is a representation, concerns will hold to oblige to all the more likely suit that population.Social InfluencesThe people is constantly adjusting comparable to gustatory sensations, habits and development. At the point when a worry can change to suit these gustatory sensations it makes an expanded net gain yet worries that do n't modify run the risk of going originated before and lose clients.Legal InfluencesThese are mandates and approaches that the specialists put frontward and they impactsly affect the worry. A worry is relied upon to remain by every one of these Torahs and mandates, however these influence the aggregate of cash an organization makes, which in twist influences how great it runs.Political InfluencesWhen there are enormous political modifications concern affirmation each piece great as uncertainness may lift or fall, legislative issues influence concerns since they can introduce income upgrades, a representation would be the introduction of the Carbon Tax, which was made because of troublesome judgment over Australian strategy this wil l set endeavor on greater organizations. Be that as it may, they can other than be useful for a worry ; a representation would deregulate which is the remotion of policies.Institutional InfluencesThere are three boss institutional impacts and they are ; specialists, regulative natural structures and other. The specialists presents mandates, the natural structures screen the worry and others influence concerns like authorities.Technological InfluenceWith new engineerings comes another way for customers to shop and for worries to sell, a worry can utilize grouped engineerings like the internet to air at that spot stock each piece great as sell their stocks over the internet which pleas to more up to date customers, it other than permits worries to give to their customers snappier. Innovation can other than detract from worries, for case Borders which is a book shop, is standing up to inconvenience since customers are currently buying books off the internet since it is less expensive, this implies Borders will presently hold to close some store and faces a hard hereafter.Competitive Situation InfluencesCompetition between two shops is a general happening ; they can benefit the customer through less expensive money related qualities and better gross incomes each piece great as the worry through the going customer to the worry. Each organization battles to go the pioneer which is called manageable competitory bit of leeway, the changing extent of adversaries decides how the worry will deliver and sell their merchandise.Changes in Markets InfluenceCapital would now be able to go through states, it is presently simpler for worries to buy abroad offers/organizations, this opens up worries, in twist the worry develops. Notwithstanding this developing there is a shakiness which was made obvious during the GFC ; there is currently a solid move for the interest of talented specialists, for example the expansion of interest for excavators because of the turning unearthing segment. There has other than been solid developing in customer markets, in the estimation of universe exchange this was welcomed on through building which settled on it simpler to pass on.DecisionIn choice, an outer impact is one that is out of the worries control while an inner impact is partner to a worry. They are both negative and positive, since they help the worry to create and turn the worry each piece great as let the worry to dad

Understanding Debt Relief An Interview With Michael Bovee of The Consumer Recovery Network

Understanding Debt Relief An Interview With Michael Bovee of The Consumer Recovery Network Understanding Debt Relief: An Interview With Michael Bovee of The Consumer Recovery Network Understanding Debt Relief: An Interview With Michael Bovee of The Consumer Recovery NetworkThere are a thousand reasons that a person can end up drowning in debt. But whether its hefty medical bills, irresponsible credit card use, or predatory  bad credit loans, its true that your options for getting  out  of debt are far more limited than your options for getting into it.Wed like to pretend that simply tightening your belt and  working a side gig to pay off those personal loans and credit cards would be enough to get you out of debt, but that simply isnt true for everyone. Some folks might be better off choosing a debt relief program with an experienced professional. To get some additional insights into debt relief and how it works, we sat down with Michael Bovee (@debtbytes), debt coach founder of the Consumer Recovery Network, a site that provides educational tools and assistance to people looking for debt relief options. He gave us his thoughts on the process of  settling and cons olidating consumer debts as well as the state of the debt relief industry in general. Enjoy!OppLoans: Can you tell  us a little bit about yourself and your background? How did you get into the business of debt relief?Bovee: I fell into this industry by accident and became entrenched in it. I’m a debt geek, I’m fascinated by debt, and I would be doing this no matter what, even if it was just in my spare time like I did back in the day with forums and things like that. Ultimately, I got angry. A friend of mine was contacted by a debt collector back in the early ‘90s, and they cussed him out, did things they weren’t supposed to be able to do. I went to the law library on campus and found out the things they were doing to him were actually illegal. They can’t say those things!Long story short, I helped him resolve that debt. We tried to find attorneys to help us at the time, but back then, in ‘94 there was really no  consumer law body that did this kind of work. So we resolv ed it on our own and actually negotiated a settlement. We used some of their bad behavior to get a really good deal. That happened in 1994. I started full-time in the industry in 1998, and I started CRN in 2004. We have a focus on education mainly. That’s our mission statement: educate and inform. Mostly as it related to triage. We’re not focused on methods like the debt snowball or whatever, we focus more on anybody that’s dealing with a triage situation. That is mostly something we achieve through publishing guides through our website and in video form through YouTube. We do work with consumers. We are a network, so we network with attorneys, we network with credit counseling agencies, bankruptcy attorneys. Basically, we’re always trying to help people find and/or get direct assistance when they can’t go through the process on their own.I’m an outspoken critic of my industry, because it deserves it. I’m an expert witness in court matters about the industry, and I work hard to change laws dealing with debt consolidation and debt fairness. I’m pretty heavily engaged in the industry at large.  Can you talk about the difference between debts and expenses?A debt is something that, in today’s society, you’re paying on. You received something on forward demand, you wanted to buy something that you didn’t have the money for, and you took a loan out for all intents and purposes. That’s what a credit card is a revolving or fixed loan. Or a mortgage, or a car payment. It’s forward demand. You didn’t have enough or chose not to pay for something in cash. Expenses are things that you do to get by each day.How much debt are the people who use your services typically in?Right now, on average, the people who we contact and do a full consultation with have about 22 grand in revolving credit card debt or online loans. That doesn’t speak to student loans, it doesn’t include mortgages or auto loans. That’s kind of the average, it’s down from w hat it was, say, 10 years ago, although I do see it creeping back up. We do run data and we see a little year over year creep in the last few years. Not by much, it’s been going down and down over the past decade and now it’s starting to go up a little bit.Why do you think it’s going up? Does it have anything to do with the shrinking regulations that the lending industry is being subjected to?No, that would only be consistent with the last year. The new administration has much less aggressive regulatory standards, but I think it’s more or less a symptom of people not having enough, and going through financial setbacks. I also think it has to do with the increasing cost of medical care. But what I’m talking about are people who are going through triage. That’s traditionally maybe 30 percent of the population. What is your process like working with clients? When someone reaches out to you, what are the steps you take to help them? It’s all math. Everything I’ve done all these years has been very math-centric. I do want to talk to them about their specific goals, both near and midterm. I’d define that as anything between now and three years from now, what financing and other kinds of goals do you have to both improve your life or the life of a loved one? This includes student loans! It’s math-centric because usually people call us when something’s not going well for them financially. They’re usually limited to three mainstream options that are designed to help them manage the situation because they’re past the point of consolidating or getting lower interest rates through a loan, they’ve already tried that.So we focus on consolidating through the nonprofits. There are about 100 nonprofits in the nation that do this. They don’t require a credit score, it’s not a loan, they have pre-arranged interest rate concessions from credit card banks, not online lenders. They go in and have these five year plans (they’re not allowed to last longe r than 60 months, the Fed won’t allow it), and they amortized their payments over some reduced interest rate and their monthly payment will be somewhere between 1.7 and 2.5 percent of their combined balances for up to 60 months. They have to have a dependable source of income that says this is the track you can be on and succeed on. That’s the first line of arithmetic. We just calculate 2.1 percent of their balance and see if that’s an affordable payment for them. If they can, I’ll have them talk to one of those hundred agencies. They all do the same thing so it doesn’t matter who you go to, they’re all gonna give you the same quote for a monthly payment. If that’s a go, I usually stop there. I don’t want to talk about other options until they’ve either been informed about the nonprofit option, and if they can do that, we usually won’t hear from them again. If they can’t, then we’re on the phone again. If someone tells me they can’t go that route and tell the m that, well, now we’re looking at bankruptcy or settling your debts for less than what you owe. I want to go through the bankruptcy process to see whether they meet the median income to qualify for Chapter 7 in their state. This is a set number that varies from state to state and depends on the number of people in your household. But I’ll walk clients through that process. Some states take home equity into account, and some don’t. So you have to look at that before you move into that option. Maybe they would qualify if they sold their home, is that worth it to them? If you can’t qualify for the means test, or just absolutely refuse to do Chapter 7 for some other reason, then we can move onto other options. The things is, if you can qualify for Chapter 7, it’s absolutely the smart choice. But some people just won’t do it. In that case, I talk to them about their specific creditors and what it would take to settle their debt. This is what you’re up against. One creditor m ight settle for one amount, another for more or less. I go down the list of forward-looking estimates. I ask them how long it would take them to get that amount of money. Contrary to the way the rest of my industry like to pigeonhole people into things, selling them on three, four, even five-year plans, which are often disasters, I usually make sure that these payment plans don’t take longer than two years because you can be sued, and many creditors do sue!At the end of the day, I try to push people towards Chapter 7 as hard as I can. I tell them that bankruptcy doesn’t affect them for as long as they think it will. Sure it will be on their credit report for a while but you can still get a mortgage in three years, for two years SHA. You can get a car loan  for five or six percent the year after your bankruptcy and you’ll have credit card offers flooding into your mailbox just a month after your bankruptcy! When they weigh the costs of bankruptcy as being less than $2,000, and t he cost of settling their debts might be 40 percent of their total debt, or around $18,000, it just makes sense to do it and be done with it! Mathematically, which would you prefer?Bankruptcy doesn’t kill your goals or dreams, it just puts them on pause for a relatively short time, all things considered. You were talking about creditors who will settle for less than what someone owes. Does every creditor do this?Every one of them. There’s honestly not a single creditor out there that doesn’t settle to some degree. I would tell you that small local credit unions have a tendency to not settle very well. They do draw the line and sometimes just refuse to settle at all. At some point later on they might take 10, 20 percent off. That’s not great, and sometimes I’ll tell people to avoid trying to settle with smaller credit unions at all. But larger USAA, NavyFed, etc, they all settle. All the major banks, they settle.  What’s the lowest amount you’ve seen a creditor settle fo r?This doesn’t apply anymore but during the height of the recession, in 2008-2009 when credit card defaults were at an all-time high (300% higher than average), we were seeing some of the larger credit card issuers regularly take $0.10 on the dollar. That doesn’t happen anymore for the most part. Those same creditors are now back to the standard of 35-40 percent. There are times when you can do a little better than that, but in general, that’s what you’re going to see.If you wanted to negotiate a debt settlement on your own, what would be the process there? That’s the question with the longest answer. I’ve got a 10-part article series on our website. If you’re a DIY person, there is a process, but it would take me hours to explain it to you right now. We have a video series and an article series that will take somebody from zero to hero if they read it. We try to help where we can. We respond to everyone’s comments on the website, on YouTube, virtually every day.We wa nt to help people navigate that process if they want to do it on their own. Of course, we offer that as a service as well, and we charge less than anybody else in the nation. We only get paid after we put a deal together that people like. They pay the creditor first, we get paid last, and we get 15 percent. There’s a lot of scams out there that claims to help people consolidate debt. How can you tell a real organization from a scammer? There are 100 of these agencies, they’re all nonprofits and they’re all heavily regulated. You can call your state finance commission, see if they’re on the DOJ approved vendor list for bankruptcy certification. In 2005, there were some changes to the bankruptcy code, and it created a requirement for anyone filing Chapter 7 to get a certificate of completion for pre and post-bankruptcy counseling. Virtually all of those agencies offer that service, they have ever since the law changes, so if they’re not on that DOJ-approved list, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a scam, but that’s a good way to vet potential companies. This is all codified into the CARD Act. Banks used to be able to jack up your interest rate because they stubbed their toe, they didn’t need a reason. But because of the CARD Act they have to wait for two months of consecutive nonpayment before they can up your interest rate. On every one of their monthly statements they send out, they also have to have a toll-free number that connects to one of these agencies. If you’re ever questioning whether or not you’re reaching one that’s legit, just open up your most recent credit card billing statement and call the toll-free number on there. That will connect you to one of these agencies. What is the process of bankruptcy like?I let people know that Chapter 7 is the heavyweight champion of all things debt relief. Nothing can compete with it. The national average cost of Chapter 7 bankruptcy is $1,800. It’s over in 90 days, you have absolute protectio n from creditors and you can move on very quickly, but you have to qualify. I go over that means test and look at assets that would otherwise be used to pay off creditors if you didn’t do Chapter 7.I tell them Chapter 13 should be last resort option to avoid. About 70 percent who have ever filed for Chapter 13 in this country have not completed it. The overarching reason as to why is the inflexible nature of the plan. It’s a forced repayment play overseen by a trustee, and you pay a set amount of money to the trustee every month. You have to give them that money, you have no wiggle room. The trustee tells you what you’re allowed to spend on groceries every month I mean it’s that real. If you have a life event, and it could be a flat tire, a hot water tank blowing, an unexpected medical expense, you’re out. You get kicked out of the plan and you’re back to where you started.I try to help people understand the difference between Chapter 7 and 13, and see if they can qualif y for 7, but I don’t go into any kind of lengthy explanation beyond that. Everything is so state-specific when it comes to bankruptcy, I refer them out to connect with NACBA, the largest association of consumer bankruptcy attorneys in the country. They have a great feature on their website where you can search for an attorney by zip code and about 80 percent of their lawyers don’t charge for an initial consult. If you’re considering this you need to talk to someone in your state, we can only scratch the surface in terms of the information we can give you for your specific situation. For more information on debt relief, debt consolidation, and bankruptcy, check out these related posts from OppLoans:How Bankruptcy Leads to Bad CreditCan Consolidating Debt Help Your Credit Score?Bad Credit Helper: Do You Need Credit Counseling? What do you want to know about debt relief? Essay on The Cost of Illegal Downloading - 1651 Words

At the end of the 20th century, file sharing and illegal downloading through Napster were the biggest hits among audiences everywhere. Because of this, many people started to believe that the music industry was failing due to declining CD sales. Although a valid statement, the music industry is not failing; instead, it is changing in many aspects due to file sharing and illegal downloading. Music is always evolving in new and innovative ways, regardless of the minor comeback vinyl records have made. Today, digital files are the most popular form of obtaining music. When one has a digital file of music, he/she is able to share with others without changing the file, in terms of quality. What makes this possible is the binary coding that†¦show more content†¦An article by CBS said, â€Å"Jurors ordered Jammie Thomas, 30, to pay the six record companies that sued her $9,250 for each of 24 songs they focused on in the case. It seems to be that this type of change of listening and obtaining music is inevitable because there are just so many benefits that outweigh the negative aspects. The music industry is changing in the respect that single songs and playlists are dominating entire albums. In other words, more people prefer to purchase individual songs by other artists rather than purchasing entire albums. What made this possible was the creation of iTunes and its music store, but of course an iPod is necessary with the two. With the iTunes music store, one has the option to either buy an entire album, typically for $9.99, or purchase individual songs for $.99 each. Listeners can also preview the songs up to ninety seconds, which can either make or break the decision to buy the song or album. If one were to purchase the individual songs, they would essentially be saving more money, which is more appealing. Congress As Part Of The Fair Labor Standards Act - 1084 Words

Congress as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) instituted minimum wage back in 1938. The first minimum wage was at $0.25 per hour and the last minimum wage increase occurred in 2007. Over the past 65 years the minimum wage has varied considerably in inflation-adjusted buying power. It has averaged $6.60 an hour in purchasing power in 2013 dollars, but it has ranged from a low of $3.09 an hour in late 1948 to a high of $8.67 an hour in 1968. Today’s minimum wage buys somewhat more than the minimum wage has historically, although it remains over a dollar an hour below its historical high. In addition to the federal minimum wage, nearly all states within the United States have their own minimum wage laws with the exception of South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Sixteen states have a minimum wage that is higher than the federal minimum wage. The first moves to legislate wages did not set minimum wages, rather the laws created arbitration boards and councils to resolve labor conflicts before the recourse to strikes. Minimum wage is raised usually when there is a time of healthy economic growth and low unemployment. In 1990, Congress enacted a minimum wage hike that took effect on April 1 of that year, when unemployment stood at 5.4 percent. Congress voted to raise the minimum wage again in August 1996—when unemployment stood at 5.1 percent. The next vote to raise the minimum wage occurred in May 2007, when unemployment stood at 4.4 percent.Show MoreRelatedThis American (Working) Life1053 Words   |  5 Pagespay (U.S. Cong. Federal Labor). The Amazon Tribe Like The Wari Culture - 1431 Words

Starting with the meaning of Culture; is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by their beliefs, behaviors, language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. To me it was interesting to read the three books and learned about how Conklin, Hutchinson, and Basso studied the concept of the different cultures. In Consuming Grief, Beth A. Conklin, studies the history of the Amazon Tribe like the Wari culture. Conklin talked about the concept of Cannibalism which was something new for me to learn about how people are eating human flesh. People in the olden days used to practice cannibalism during the famines, in the besieged cities. Some of the primitive tribes believed that by eating the flesh of enemies, they could acquire their abilities. On the other hand others believe in cannibalism as a religious ritual or burial rites, or a way for the family to get rid of their loss easily, quickly and as a kind of exaggeration in hurting the enemy, w here the winner will eat the flesh of the vanquished. And some people thought that eating the dead body was considered a sign of respect and compassion for the dead person. Cannibalism existed only in the past until the 1960s among the Indians of the western Amazonian rainforest. Innovation and Sustainable Business Development Graphical

Question: Discuss about theInnovation and Sustainable Business Developmentfor Graphical. Answer: Introduction The establishment of the structured business model is essential for representing the overall business processes. Some of the business models, such as contextual, graphical, and textual are associated with the organisational structure (Zou, et al., 2014). The business organisations identify the future prospects of a sustainable business and develop the suitable business model to conduct the business activities. The initial formulation of the business model includes the technological architectures, value propositions, and the organisational infrastructure. Therefore, the essay is based on the formulation of the structured business model that can e perceived as the system. Discussion The conceptualized ideas of the business model development are initially focusing on the identification of the core business concepts. It has been observed that the business organisations often deal with several segmentations, such as organisational structure, target customers, and the operational policies (Veit et al., 2014). The business model is generally dealing with the assumption based hypothetical context that determines the necessary resources used for fulfilling the business objectives. The identification of such key resources is much beneficial in organizing the value chain process in a significant way. Morris et al., (2015) opined that the business model development is mainly focusing on the expected outcomes of the organisational structure for ensuring the new opportunities. The business model as a system is associated with the identification, understanding, and the stimulation process of the model evaluation. It is to be specified that the system model is generally utilized to present the conceptualized ideas about the interdisciplinary study. This interdisciplinary model is focusing in the application of the model for presenting the conceptualized form of the systems, especially, in the business development in IT firms. It is noted that the functional modeling is concentrating on the functional flow diagram and the important techniques. It is important to state that the business process-modeling notation is one kind of typical workflow that is represented through the graphical presentation (Fielt, 2014). The conceptual models can sometimes be physical or social that based on the values of current affairs. The business model as a system is much helpful in resolving the static and dynamic issues. These business models are generally depending on the scientific method in which the starting point is to create the hypothetical value. The business managers often concentrate on using the business models in order to address the issues based on the static or dynamic factors. It is noted that they use the spreadsheet for ensuring the analytical approaches for the upcoming planning process (Farahani et al., 2014). In fact, evaluation of such business model is much beneficial in analyzing the critical components. In addition to this, it is essential for the business manager to ensure the business dynamics for resolving the internal conflicts. Therefore, the business managers have been using the business models for strengthening the value positions and securing the competitive position as well. Additionally, it is much helpful in developing the strong customer base as well. The establishment of the business model system is effective enough in recognizing the partnership aspects of the firm. The business model canvas is generally used for identifying the right partners in the market that can be beneficial for the entrepreneurial business process. While securing the competitive position in the market, it is essential for the firm to identify the potential suppliers and the different types of partnerships (Bohnsack, Pinkse Kolk, 2014). These partnerships are generally concentrating on the location and needs of the relevant supply chain process. In fact, evaluation of such business model is much beneficial in analyzing the critical components. In addition to this, it is essential for the business manager to ensure the business dynamics for resolving the internal conflicts (Boons Ldeke-Freund, 2013). The business model system is the most useful source of identifying these specific factors that determine the association of the right partnership businesses. It is in fact helpful in defining the expectations in the competitive business market and the impacts on the potential clients. It is essential for the business clients to ensure the win-win situations. However, it is important to select the right business partners for the future growth. On the other hand, the business partnership process is classified into various typologies, such as joint venture, strategic alliance, and buyer-supplier relationships. It is essential to select the right method to strengthen the business entity on the grounds of competitive market. Another most beneficial use of business model is the innovation process. The application of the innovative business mechanisms is necessary for ensuring the sustainable development of the firm in a competitive market. In fact, the innovative business method is generally persuading the business companies to differentiate the business strategies and achieve the competitive advantage (Baden-Fuller Haefliger, 2013). The business managers often concentrate on using the business models in order to address the issues based on the static or dynamic factors. It is noted that they use the spreadsheet for ensuring the analytical approaches for the upcoming planning process. The business model system is thus helpful enough in identifying the unique mechanisms that will be helpful enough in increasing the standardized business parameter. Mitsuru Kodama, on his article named Boundaries Innovation and Knowledge Integration in the Japanese Firm highlighted the restructuring process of a Japanese firm for competing in the global market (Kodama, 2009). The article pointed out several competencies of the Japanese firm for ensuring the capability of participating in the competitive business market. For example, the strong base of the electronic and telecommunication services is effective enough in attracting more customers towards the business brands. The article is focusing on the knowledge integration firm that develops the unique corporate model. The integration process is linking the organisations from different zones. The evaluation of the knowledge integration model helps in prevailing the challenges and the issues associated with the vertical corporate boundaries. Another article on Killing Two Birds with One Stone, it has been specified that the structured business model is helpful in improving the product and service delivery process. It is to be specified that the associated spreadsheet in the business development process provide the insights about the logic-based issues (Itami Nishino, 2010). The understanding of the critical components is essential for organizing the value added services that are much attractive for the target customer group. In fact, the article provides the reflective insights about the simplistic forms of performing the organisational activities. Managing the core competencies would be beneficial in gathering revenues and the competitive position in the market. Conclusion This paper discloses the relevant findings that would be helpful in understanding the future business trends via developing business models. The business models are considered as a part of the overall business systems. The business managers often concentrate on using the business models in order to address the issues based on the static or dynamic factors. It is noted that they use the spreadsheet for ensuring the analytical approaches for the upcoming planning process. In fact, evaluation of such business model is much beneficial in analyzing the critical components. In addition to this, it is essential for the business manager to ensure the business dynamics for resolving the internal conflicts. The continuous changing scenario of the business model innovation sometimes can be invisible to the people worldwide. It is implied that the business model development is associated with several factors, such astrategic choices, value network, creating values, and capturing values. The spre adsheet presented by the managers for the business model development provides the solution to address the logic-based issues within an organisation. Theories of Crime Causation Unit1 DB Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Theories of Crime Causation Unit1 DB - Essay Example Other social factors that affect the individual determine recidivism of the individual (James 2003). Therefore, it is imperative to consider these factors in the rehabilitation process to ensure its success. Although rehabilitation works, the effectiveness of this method does not quite do away with recidivism, and it becomes necessary to adopt measures that prevent the occurrence of crime. Prevention of crime is a concept that works effectively in the reduction of crime. The police oversee the task of prevention of crime, and as such, they must focus on prevention of crime. This implies, therefore, that the main objective of the police is the protection of innocent lives from criminals and prevention of crimes against these innocent individuals. However, in the execution of this duty the police officers should operate within the law and at the same time ensure the protection of the innocent (Gordon 1998). Additionally, the police officers should also handle the criminals in a manner that conforms to the provisions of law relating to such individuals. This situation puts the police in a tough position and implies that, in the balance between protecting the innocent and upholding the law, the police must act prudently. Thus, the police officers should protect the innocent while upholding the

Printmaking - Essay Example In this cheese printing, the artist engraved a metal plate covered in a resin. Resin is used because it is a material that is acid resistant. After applying the design, the plate is then dipped in an acid that â€Å"bites† the design into a plate, inked, and then pressed with a paper. Here, the artist drew directly on a stone that is very flat or even a special prepared metal plate usually a greasy crayon. The stone is then dampened using water, and then inked. The ink will then be clinged on the greasy crayon marks not on areas that are dampened. After pressing the paper against the stone, the ink found on greasy sections is transferred to it. Here, a specific type of pencil called silk screen is used. This technique was first used in 20th century. Andy Warhol first prepares a stretched screen that is very tight normally of blocks, and silk on areas that need not be printed through filling the mesh of screen using a vanish like substance or any material that would block the fabric pores. The paper is then placed below the screen and ink is forced through the open mesh on the paper. This print making processes is widely used in textile especially in common

An overview of global warming

An overview of global warming Cautions: Global Warming! The air quality of our atmosphere has been in drastic changes in the past century. Industrial revolution has cause major harm to our environment. Pollution, dumping toxic wastes into our ocean, and releasing harmful gases and sprays into the atmosphere. These are some of the cause of global warming so dangerous in the worlds environment. We should take more action towards global warming before its too late. What is Global warming? Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earths temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate (Global). Population growth, deforestation, and pollution have increased by a large margin from twenty, forty, or even a hundred years ago. Since the Industrial Revolution, machines have changed the way life we lived. Before the Industrial Revolution, human activity released very few gases into the atmosphere, but now through population growth, fossil fuel burning, and deforestation, we are affecting the mixture of gases in the atmosphere (Global). It is imperative that we, the people, take action on our dying environment, for the future of our kids and generations to come. Unless steps are taken to stop this progression of events, and even in spite of such steps, the vast majority of the evidence shows that the Earth will continue to grow warmer, with widespread and even catastrophic results. How did we find out what was the cause of global warming? After doing some research, I learned that global warming is created by the greenhouse effect: The greenhouse effect is the rise in temperature that the Earth experiences because certain gases in the atmosphere (water vapor, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane, for example) trap energy from the sun. Without these gases, heat would escape back into space and Earths average temperature would be about 60 F colder. Because of how they warm our world, these gases are referred to as greenhouse gases (Global). Do you know what a greenhouse is? Have you ever seen houses with a small glass house in the backyard just for plants? Well these glass houses also known as a greenhouse. They are meant for plants to survive through the winter time by trapping heat within the house. Since, Earths atmosphere is very much like the greenhouse model, energy from the sun passes through our atmosphere where energy is absorbed by the air, water, and plants. Once absorbed, the energy then releases itself back into the atmosphere and then releases into space. Without the greenhouse effect, our climate could be disastrous because the atmosphere regulates our climate. It could raise or lower the temperatures, misbalancing nature. Even though the greenhouse effect is good for the environment, it could also be bad. Since the atmosphere is filled with pollution, the energy re-releasing back into space sometimes gets trapped by the atmosphere and warms up the Earths climate. Pollution is one of the largest problems in todays environment. By emitting harmful gases such as carbon dioxide which are mainly released from cars and power plants, harmful gases will build up into the atmosphere. The harmful effects of gas build up in the atmosphere and can increase the temperature of the Earth which could endanger plants, cause wild weather patterns, or alter land formations (Global). There are many ways to increase the effects of global warming such as contamination, wastes, or deforestation. One of the largest producers of pollution is power plants. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), turning on the television, using the washer/dryer, or even turning on a light can help lead to more greenhouse gases since they use electricity which originate from power plants. The fumes of power plants are created from the burning of fossil fuels which are released into the atmosphere. What is fossil fuel? According to the Greenhouse Effect article, fossil fuel originated from plants. Plants remove carbon dioxide from the air. When the plant dies, the remains are buried in the soil. After thousands and thousands of years, the carbon dioxide is transformed into a coal or oil which is fossil fuel. The General Accounting Office study forecasts a 42 percent surge in electricity production over the next two decades that will boost U.S. power plants carbon dioxide emissions by 35 percent and mercury emissions by 9 percent (Eaton). Since the population of the world is growin g each day; people are going to use more power which would create more fossil fuels being burned up and more power plants being built to accommodate the rate of the population. Even though there are no inventions to make fossil fuel fumes to be more friendl to the environment, there are other alternatives to cut back on burning fossil fuels. By conserving power, we can cut back on electricity which could help by burning less fossil fuel. Part of the problem could be solved by converting these plants to burn cleaner natural gas (Overview). There are other alternatives to produce energy that dont come from power plants such as solar and wind energy. Solar energy is known to use solar panels to gather energy from a heat source such as the sun. This energy is gathered and stored in a flat panel where it is stored until the energy is consumed. Unlike Solar energy, there is another way to gather energy from our environment. Wind-power energy gathers energy from the wind. Have you ever driven in the highway and seen these large white fans on the top of a hill? Well, those fans are wind conservers. They act the same as solar but by the wind. The amount of energy in creases depending on the speed of the wind. In other words, the faster it goes, the more energy is gathered. Technological advances have brought the cost of electricity generated by the wind down by 82 percent since 1981 (Overview). Today, the average person usually drives himself/herself to work, travel, going or dropping someone off at school, yet do they know how much harm it can cause just to do an errand? With millions of cars driven each day, many harmful toxins are released from the cars exhaust. The amount of gases released can cause harmful effects to the environment and to health. Like power plants, cars are only small versions of power plants, but with so many of them being driven, it could be worse than power plants. The fumes of these cars can lead to breathing problems mainly for older people since their lungs are usually weaker. Organophosphate insecticides, such as diazinon, disulfoton, azinphos-methyl, and fonofos, are used widely in agriculture and in household applications as pesticides. Over 25,000 brands of pesticides are available in the United States, and their use is monitored by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The release of the pesticide can cause children or people, if inhaled, to cause malfunctions in their immune system because it mutants their cells. To help the environment, technology can be very helpful in decreasing the greenhouse effect that is plaguing our environment. While there is no technology to remove C02 from a cars exhaust, we can make them pollute less by making them more fuel efficient (Overview). Creating cars that are fuel efficient can cut back on fuels being used by cars. Hybrid cars (Gas/Electric Cars) are being created that let you go over 800 miles before a fill up for fuel. Newer technology is allowing cars to run farther by using less gas by shifting the engine between electricity and gas. If we are to make any progress in slowing global warming, we must make our cars go farther on a gallon of gas (Overview). Wastes are another large problem in our environment and a benefactor of global warming. Sometimes anti-environmental groups dump wastes into lakes and oceans where they could contaminate an area and misbalance the ecosystem. This can cause a problem because wastes could release hazardous materials that could be radioactive or very harmful that can cause people to be sick. Yet, do the people know what the effect of this waste can cause do to the environment? As a Norman Myers said, if we dont watch what we do with our resources and what we do to our environment, our resources will soon be depleted which will cause a huge conflict throughout the world. Do you know where your trash is being dumped everyday? If you say in a landfill, you are correct. A landfill is where your trash is processed and compacted and stored. Yet what does the build up of landfill have to do with global warming? The trash that we send to landfills produces a greenhouse gas called methane. It is a product of decomposition of organic matter and of the carbonization of coal. Methane is one of the greenhouse gas chemical compounds. Methane is also produced by the animals we raise for dairy and meat products and when we take coal out of the ground (Global). Like power plants and cars, trash can be very hazardous in the build up of the greenhouse effect. Since trash and wastes are getting overcrowded in landfills it could lead to trouble in the near future. Running out of room to store our wastes, there are ways of shortening the load of trash by recycling. Recycling is the process of reusing waste to make new material. Even though the public thinks recycling is good, it can also be bad. The use of sewage sludge as a fertilizer poses a more significant lead threat to the land than did the use of leaded gasoline. All sewage sludges contain elevated concentrations of lead due to the nature of the treatment process Lead is a highly toxic and cumulative (Stauber 108). Recycling wastes to create fertilizer on plants can harm farmers and ruin agriculture. The material in these wastes is very harmful because it could be contaminated with unnatural substances. Land spreading of sewage sludge is not a true disposal method, but rather serves only to transfer the pollutants in the sludge from the treatment plant to the soil, air and ground water of the disposal site (Stauber 109). Destroying nature can also shorten the life span of the Earth. Deforestation, the process of cutting down trees could disturb the ecosystem or the environment. According to the EPA, The projected 2C (3.6F) warming could shift the ideal range for many North American forest species by about 300 km (200 mi.) to the north (EPA). Since trees remove carbon dioxide from the air, cutting down the trees would only result in climate changes. If the climate changes slowly enough, warmer temperatures may enable the trees to colonize north into areas that are currently too cold, at about the same rate as southern areas became too hot and dry for the species to survive (EPA). Due to deforestation and global warming, the shift of climate change dries up the soil which would be impossible to grow anything. This is how deserts are created. The percentage of the worlds plants threatened with extinction is much larger than commonly believed, and could be as high as 47 percent if tropical species are in cluded, researchers said (Study). How can we help stop the people who are cutting down the trees? By doing the opposite, planting trees would help the environment since it removes carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. At the rate of planting one tree is about the same rate of thousands of trees being cut down. Regulating tree cutting companies would slow down the process of deforestation but it is still a problem because wood is very high in demand for housing and construction. How is nature holding up against global warming? The effects of global warming have destroyed thousands of homes by floods, created new diseases, and have left hundreds homeless to the rampage of awkward weather patterns. Global warming effects do not just change the temperatures; they can lead to the change of weather patterns and the rise of sea levels. Devastating floodsjust some of 526 significant natural disasters in the first nine months of the yearripped through parts of Europe, China, India, Nepal, and Bangladesh this year, killing thousands of people and leaving millions more homeless. Even though some nations might get positive effects such as aiding against droughts, other nations would get consequences from global warming (UN). The change of weather patterns can be very disastrous to nature and the sea since it alters the ecosystem. By changing the ecosystem, animals and vegetation are pushed out of their habitat and into a different location. Wild life isnt able to adapt to the new environment easily because they wouldnt know where to gather food or conflicts with other species. Weather patterns can create tsunamis (large tidal waves) which would crash into coastal regions creating erosions. Sea levels are rising due to the rise of temperature due to global warming. Sea level may rise between several inches and as much as 3 feet during the next century (EPA). Due to the melting of glaciers, water is rising from the ocean which is saltwater and it can spread or flood inland threatening plants and animals. If we do not help the environment now, our planet wont exist in the near future. It is important that the people understand that harming the planet to a degree can cause the extinction of the Earth. Rise of temperature, change in weather patterns, toxic wastes lurking in our air, we are vulnerable. If we want to survive on this planet in the future, we must act now before it is too late. Steps need to be taken to cut back and slow down global warming until newer technology can alter and to help the longevity of our world.

Belief Systems and Gender Roles in Dracula :: Dracula Essays

Belief Systems and Gender Roles in Dracula There is a classic "good versus evil" plot to this novel. The evil of course being Count Dracula and the Good being represented by the Harkers, Dr. Seward and Lucy, Arthur, Quincy and the Professor. It is the continuing battle between Dracula and the forces of good. Good in this case is the Christian God. The battle is foretold by the landlady where she says, "It is the eve of St Georges Day. Do you no know that tonight, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things in the world will have full sway?" and she hands Harker a crucifix (p 12). The crucifix and the empty cross are symbols of fear, loathing and danger to Dracula. There is a certain irony here as the cross is the ultimate symbol of redemption to all Christians. Sin or rather the dark side of humanity's turning from God is recognized and can be redeemed by coming to the cross. The cross is also a symbol of resurrection. The resurrection is the gift of eternal life through Christ to which all Christians can aspire. This is opposed to the Un-Dead nature of Dracula. He is immortal but it is not an eternal joyful thing. Indeed the eternity is always under threat by the very normalcy and goodness of people like the Harkers. This book is set in an age where science and the world of the Enlightenment, that is the world of rational thought and proven theories, ruled. Dr. Seward represents this world. It is opposed to the seemingly unexplainable world of Dracula and his world of mystery and fable. The events that the different characters experience, although documented faithfully are thought too unbelievable by Professor Van Helsing to be passed on (p 486). It is as if the truth can't be handled by the world at large or that by retaining the story to themselves the central characters will preserve a very terrible but precious memory. A memory made precious because of the depths of courage and faith that had to be mined by and in each of them. This is not a case of post-modern thought challenging the modernist attitudes of that Enlightenment nor can it be because post-modernist thought was not formulated in the book's context.

Hazards of Unsafe Driving Essay

Driving in and of itself is unsafe in its nature. The only thing keeping you connected to the ground is just four small patches of rubber. That is exactly why we should not take more risks while driving. Sure it may seem like you have layer of steel protecting you, but when you look at it, there is really not a lot between you and the ground when your going 50 miles an hour. The hazards of not following the rules of the road can be devastating. Not only can unsafe driving cause you to get a ticket and points against your license but it can also cause serious injury and sadly death in some cases. Must accidents are preventable by doing a few small things to insure your safety? I believe I read somewhere that some 95% of all accidents are driver error, which means nearly every single accident that occurs can be prevented by driving safely. One of the must common hazards of the roads is letting you get distracted by small things that you probably do nearly every time you sit behind the wheel of a car. In some cases, even more so with teenagers than any other group of people, other passengers in the car can distract you, you can get in a heated debate and begin to stop paying attention to the road and only to a passenger, fiddling with the radio is also another big one, I remember reading a story of a guy who reached in his backseat to change his tape and got in an accident and got killed because of it. Another big one is people see an accident and watch it instead of the road, sometimes almost causing them to become another accident. My mom once got in an accident by turning around for only just a second or so to see what my brother complaining about, the light was green when she looked back but quickly turned yellow, the car in front of her stopped and boomed, she hit it. It can only take a second or two of looking awa y to cause a dangerous situation that can be easily avoided. It can wait until the next red light or better yet when your off the road. Driving while tired is an enormous risk, I remember a few years back when a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and caused an enormous crash on a freeway killing a few people, why you ask? Because he failed to take the  required 15 minute rest break that he was required by law to. Now you do not even have to worry about taking back movies late anymore, they have it to where you can just bring it in the next morning! There is really no reason to drive while tired, just have someone else drive, or if you are on a long road trip with no hotel in sight for a long time, just pull over to the road and take a little nap for 15-30 minutes to help you make it the rest of the way. Must people think turning up the music or opening a window helps them stay awake, but the fact is studies show that it does not matter a bit if you blast the music as loud as it will go or open a window on a freezing night. The best thing to do is to just not drive or have someone else drive for you who awake eno ugh to be able to drive responsible. A even bigger and probably the easiest risk to avoid while driving is wearing your seatbelt. Thousands of people die each year because they break the law and don’t do one of the easiest things possible, buckling up. Some people say they believe seatbelts can kill people. That is true seatbelts have killed and injured people. But they help way more than they hurt. Without them many people would be dead or seriously injured, they allow people who should have died in an accident to come out of it without a scratch. My grandfather died before I was even born, he died in a car accident and was thrown through his windshield, they say if he wore his seatbelt he would have lived. He died before I ever got to meet him. Why some people take that risk every day, I will never know, even my dad (on his side was the side of my family on which my grandfather died) hardly if ever buckles up, you would think of all people he would always buckle up because that’s how he lost his father. Some people think the air bag will save them but it’s simply not true if you want to make sure that you minimize your risks as much as possible you’ll buckle up. Road rage, is another very important unsafe driving hazard. Road rage has seemed too spurred to new levels in recent years as before it was very uncommon to hear of someone beating up another person for cutting them off. It is a fact of life when you drive you will be cut off, tailgated and whatnot. You just have to learn how to make sure that you can handle the situations to where you do not allow yourself to get angry enough to where you do something violent like that to harm another person or the property. Also a simple way to help make sure you’re not the victim of someone else road rage, if you know you did something wrong and cut someone off sometimes a simple wave of the hand in showing an apology is enough to cool someone off. Speeding, it seems like everyone does it right? Well the majority of people do, from what I can tell from people I’ve asked, driving with other people, and just looking out at the roads, it seems like everyone is in a hurry to get there, and get there now. Some people are not even in a hurry they just speed because there use to it, sure its normally only five over, but that still speeding, some people do it because they get a rush from going fast, others because they are in a hurry to get where they want to go, or there late. Some people do it just out of habit their use to going 30 in 25’s or 50 in 45’s because they normally won’t get pulled over for only going five over so they decide they’ll do it. While others do it but don’t mean to, sometimes when you drive for a long time you don’t release that your going 5-10 miles over. Speeding is probably the biggest hazard of driving that must people do, and it’s also one of the must dangerous people can do. Speeding can cause deadly accidents and can turn cars into something for the junkyard. Avoiding traffic signs or signals is another big one. My mom has been hit twice, one by someone who ran a red light and another by someone who ran a stop sign. In small neighborhoods where not too many cars come by, or late at night when it seems like you’re the only one on the road some people think there can’t possible be any other cars coming and decide to run it. Or they’ll see the yellow light from a distance and say to themself’s ‘I can make it’ when in fact they’ll actually be going through it because the time they get there it will be red. Must of the accidents I have seen in my life are at intersections where I can only assume it was because someone has run a red light. Many people don’t even slow down for yellows they speed up when they shouldn’t. Normally there’s that few seconds where the lights are changing and they can make it, but every now and than someone misjudges their timing and gets hit. Drinking and driving, easily avoidable by everyone, people like to drink, sometimes they don’t know when they should stop and become impaired. Some of them even try to get behind the wheel of a car. Sometimes a friend will take them home or let them stay at their house until they sober up but other times there not so luckily in keeping them off the road and the driver can’t even tell which side of the road there supposes to be on. I saw an accident on T.V. a few years back where a guy had been drinking during his entire day of fishing out at the lake and decided to go home. He swerved over into another guy’s lane at 70 miles an hour the other guy was forced off the road where he’s jeep flipped over. Luckily because the man was wearing a seatbelt he lived with no serious injury’s but his car was totaled. Sadly some people can’t even tell they’re drunk and think they’re fine. Sadly many people die a year because of this, I read so mewhere that in one summer more people die from drinking and driving accidents than the amount of people who died during the entire Vietnam war. Now that is a lot of death’s the can be prevented if people just don’t drive impaired. A lot of people drive the exact same when its raining or snowing. When in fact they should be giving themself’s a extra few seconds of room between them and the car in front of them and break sooner. When its raining and there’s even a little water on the ground when you go fast enough the car no longer even has contact with the ground but only the water, now that’s unsafe! A lot of people loose control of there cars and crash when there is icy or wet roads out. Its also very easily avoidable, giving yourself a few extra seconds going maybe 5-10 miles slower than one would normally go would almost eliminate any risk of driving in bad weather. Also if its raining to hard to where its making it nearly impossible to see through the windshield, pull over! Normally when it rains that hard it will only last for a few minutes or so. Pulling over for that time helps make sure that you don’t ram a person in front of you because you can’t see them. Driving to close behind someone, it takes you longer than you think to release something is wrong and than to move your foot to the break, in that crucial amount of time it could be to late, giving yourself distance from  the car in front of you is the easiest thing to do, just let off the gas and be at least 3 seconds in normal weather and a little longer in bad weather behind someone and you’ll be a lot safer. Not only is driving at a distance safer the driver in front will appreciate it greatly. We all know there’s nothing worse than thinking the guy behind us is about to ram the back of our car. Driving with faulty equipment, sometimes not the easiest thing to recognize but certainly a easy one to fix. You may not notice your light is burnt out or your single is not working right away as soon as it happens, but when you do you should have it repaired as soon as possible. Having your lights not working makes you incredibly less visible at night, nearly impossible to see at times depending on how dark outside it is. It helps a bunch to be able to tell where your going to other cars, not being able to single correctly with a turn single can make it really hard and frustrating the driver who didn’t know you were going to be moving into his or her lane. There’s really no reason to let a flat be a flat, now you can buy a can to fix small leaks and pay a quarter to have it filled up again. Maybe not the must dangerous hazard out there but certainly one to keep a eye on. Being prepared for situations is also a great idea to help minimize the risks of you getting into trouble out on the road, knowing where your hazard lights are in a panic can be invaluable. My mom in one of her accidents in a panic forgot where her hazard lights were, in the evening other cars could not tell she was stopped and not only was she hit once she was also hit again from behind because a car could not see her stopped in the middle of the road. Knowing not to panic in accidents insures your safety while driving and makes your odds for survival greater when in accidents. A large majority of people panic when involved in accidents and only cause greater damage to themself’s or others because they do not know how to properly respond to a situation. Knowing the driving laws where you live or are going! Its probably one of the must easiest things to miss, when I went to Arizona for the summer the speed limits in the city I was in was normally 35, I was not used to it, because  around here the speed limits on must main roads are 45! Watching for the signs can help you not become a hazard. Also when my dad came up here a few months ago for my sisters graduation he was unfamiliar with the ‘Michigan right’ as we like to call it, and had no idea he had to go right to go left. Sometimes it can be hard just to know the speed limits and other odds and ends in driving in your own area, becoming familiar with your own area is a good example to, must people miss the fact that Middlebelt is 40 and normally go much faster! Knowing your roads, the speed limits, and any other posted sign can be an enormous help in driving safely. Knowing where the cars around you are can also be a big help to, knowing where that motorcycle is so you don’t cut him off is invaluable, motorcyclists have virtually no protection from cars and if one gets hit that’s pretty much it for him or her that’s on it. Checking your blind spots, probably the #1 thing must people forgot to do is a huge thing, we all know there’s spaces you can not see if you just look straight ahead and only at your mirror . You do not want to just check your mirror and than smack right into someone because you were to lazy to glance in the direction you were going in. Its also a safe idea to not be right next to a car, they say if the car see’s a immediate danger to going to swerve into the closest lane, which normally in a two lane road would be where you are, they say to try and space yourself to where your not next to a car beside you, because if you don’t, and they see a danger odds are there coming for you and t he only other option you have is to go right into oncoming traffic. Not knowing what to do in certain situations is another huge one, a few months back when we had the power outage that took out many stop lights, must people did not know that a down traffic light is suppose to be treated as a four way stop unless a officer is there controlling the situation. Some people do not follow the directions of officers to go other directions and become a hazard to other responsible people who are following the directions giving to them by the officer. Others can get in the way of a fire truck or ambulance as there passing because they do not release there suppose to get over and out of the way so that they can pass quickly and not have to work there way through traffic. With every single example above there is several things in common, they can all be incredibly dangerous, sometimes even deadly, and they are all incredibly easy to avoid doing for the must part. Driving in and of itself is a very dangerous thing to do, Doing the things above only makes something that’s dangerous even more dangerous. Taking dangerous risks like those above can cost you more than just a few bucks from your wallet, a point or two against your drivers license, or a small insurance increase, it can cost you your life. Not only that but now a days its more important than ever to have a clean driving record. It helps show your responsible to employers and that you follow rules accordingly. If a job requires driving and you have a clean record compared to someone who has a few tickets, odds are there going to choose you instead. Health insurance, life insurance, some of there premiums are based off your driving record believe it or not! Driving safely won’t cost you anything but it can save you a ton of money. Not only that but the time you have to take off work to go to court, the fines you’ll pay, the insurance increase, its all just not worth it. Not only will you save your wallet, you might just save your life or someone with you, you do not want to be held responsible for the death of a friend who is in the car with you because you did not prevent it from happening when you could have, it would truly be a horrible thing to live with for the rest of someone’s life, knowing there responsible for the death of the friend or a family member. Driving safely is probably the easiest thing a person can do and driving safely far outweighs the benefits of driving carelessly.

Factory Farming and Its Effects on the Environment

Sheri Lupo English 112 Factory Farming and its Effects on our Health, the Environment, and the Welfare of Animals The term â€Å"factory farming† has more to it than it sounds. Factory farming is a term that makes up a multitude of disturbing images, from rows of animals packed tightly into gigantic warehouses and misused workers striving for substandard wages, to massive amounts of pollutants spilling into the environment. It is a big business that tries to maximize profits and minimize cost through the mass production of cheap meat, dairy, and eggs. The public is at risk for E. coli poisoning, salmonella poisoning, Mad Cow Disease, the swine flu, the bird flu, all which are transmittable from animal to human. Eighty percent of our nation’s antibiotics prod uced are distributed to farm animals, not to keep them from getting sick, but to make them grow bigger, faster and to be able to tolerate living in crowded quarters. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that this has contributed to the emergence of virulent supergerms that are resistant to antibiotics. In Sabrina Tavernise’s article, â€Å"Farm Use of Antibiotics Defies Scrutiny,† she speaks with the director of the Emerging Pathogens Institute at the University of Florida, and he states, â€Å"The single biggest problem we face in infectious disease today is the rapid growth of resistance to antibiotics. Human use contributes to that, but use in animals clearly has a part too† (Tavernise). Another health concern is obesity. With the mass production of cheap milk, eggs, meat, and dairy, the public is consuming more and more. Obesity is a massive problem today and is on the rise.
